Cytotoxic Timeout

For some cytotoxic medications, a cytotoxic timeout is required as part of the administration process. This is performed in Interactive View and I&O.

Adding the cytotoxic group in Quick View

If the cytotoxic section in Quick View is not visible, it has to be added. 

  1. Click on the customisation button.
  2. Tick Cytotoxic.
  3. Click OK.

  1. The cytotoxic section will appear in Quick View.
  2. Click on the Dynamic Group icon next to Cytotoxic Administration Time Out.

  3. Select appropriate information.
  4. Click OK.

Completing the cytotoxic timeout

  1. Find the time column for when you want to chart the information
  2. Double click in the cell to enter information into the Designated Cytotoxic area time out section. This would be completed when preparing the medication
  3. Select the relevant responses by placing a tick in the boxes
  4. Patient bedside time out should be completed at the point of administration, at the bedside
  5. Click on the green tick to sign

  6. Enter a witness name.
  7. Click OK.

  8. Click Witness Sign.

  9. Enter Username and password of the witness.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Enter your own password.
  12. Click OK.

  13. The information will appear in black once signed off.

Administering Cytotoxic Medication

  1. Open the task for the medication to be administered from the MAR
  2. Select Prep Room and Bedside from the drop down menu next to Cytotoxic time out completed
  3. Fill out all mandatory fields indicated in yellow and change or check all other fields
  4. Click the green tick to sign off the administration

  5. The completion of the time out will be recorded as part of the medication administration
