The Guiding principles for Theatres is to continue to use the medication chart that the patient currently has:
- If a paper chart, continue to use paper. For RHW patients, use paper charts at all times
- If an eMM chart (from a ward), or no chart (new patient from SSSU):
- Order Pre-operative and Post-operative medications electronically
- Use eMM for Intra-operative medications in the following instances:
- Order and administer any medications, such as antibiotics, that are commenced in Theatres with a dose given intra-op and continue post-op on the wards
- Sign-off as administered any medications which are already ordered on eMM and have doses given intra-operatively
- Order and sign-off administration of IV paracetamol and parecoxib to prevent overdosing of NSAIDs on the wards
- For all other intra-operative medications and documentation, use the paper anaesthetic chart
- Note, anaesthetic nurses will document fluid balance details electronically to patients charts
