Metabolic Infusions - Prescribing (CHW)

GO LIVE - 12 February 2024

• Click on orders 

• Open the Metabolic Infusion Folder 

• Select the required infusion 

Note: the metabolic infusions do not have drug-allergy or drug-drug interaction checking. 

• Click OK to continue 

The Order Scratch Pad will open to the Continuous Details Tab

Complete the required details: 

1. Bag volume (this should reflect the TOTAL bag volume and NOT the volume of diluent)
2. Dose (in mg) of each additive
3. The infuse over time (in hrs) -  the rate will auto-calculate once the above details are entered
4. The infusions instructions (dose calculations) -  this is a free text section. Please manually enter the data.
   • Add the FINAL VOLUME – this should match the Bag volume in step 1 above.
   • Add the dose of each additive (in mg) to be added in the bag
   • The volume of the additive (in mL) to be added to the bag
   • The final bag volume to be made up with Glucose 10%

• Click the Details Tab 
• Enter indication
• Sign order 

• The orderable will appear on the MAR with the continuous infusion segment of the MAR 

Note: 

1. Load Infusions should be discontinued when completed
2. Modifications to rates or additives in Continuous Infusions is done via the prescription of a NEW order. The current/ old order needs to be discontinued to remove it from the MAR and avoid confusion.
