The Post-Operative Inpatient Orders PowerPlan contains the SCH Recovery Pain Protocol Orders. These orders have a duration of 4 hours.
The duration time commences at the point of signing.
Duration Modifications for Longer Cases
If prescribing prior to the patient entering the operating theatre, it is vital that the duration is extended for longer cases.
The Recovery Pain Orders policy recommends the below formula to ensure the patient has active pain orders in recovery.
Duration = expected case time + 4 hours
To modify the duration:

Search for the Post-Operative PowerPlan.

Locate the Recovery Pain Protocol Orders.

Select the required medication by placing a tick in the left hand side box.

Click Order For Signature.

Open the Order Scratch Pad.

Add the dose.

Modify the Duration to the required hours.
- Review the remaining details.
- Sign the order.
- Review all orders on the MAR or MAR Summary
