There are two methods of writing prescriptions for an in-patient.

 Firstly, through Discharge reconciliation.

Discharge Reconciliation

Select the medication and choose the prescription option.

Convert to Prescription - Med Rec

See Discharge Prescriptions Using Reconciliation (inpatients) for more detail

Secondly, by right-clicking on the order you wish to prescribe.

Convert to Prescription

In both circumstances the Convert to prescription window will appear.  If ordering prescription medications from an in-patient order you must select a Conversion sentence so pharmacy can dispense the formulation selected.

Note: The hospital pharmacy stocks the formulations marked with the green dot.

An Order Sentences window may appear with a list of available Order Sentences.

The prescriber may untick Filtered Order Sentences to see more order sentences or choose to add their own information to the prescription.

Order Sentence Window - Filters Applied

If unticked, additional Order Sentences will appear.

Order Sentence Window - No Filters Applied

If you select an order sentence the dosage calculator will appear and most of the prescription details will auto-populate.

Pre-Populated Mandatory Fields

If (None) is selected as an Order Sentence the prescription will not auto-populate
