Maintenance Fluid 

Commence administration of the Maintenance Fluid

  • Click Continuous Infusions in the Time View menu

  • Continuous infusions float with the yellow current time column as Pending.
  • Click the pending tile for Glucose 5% and Sodium Chloride .9% Infusion

  • All IVs require a witness (Witness, Nurse)
  • Note how many bags are ordered (1)
  • Site is mandatory. Select a site (CVC Brown Lumen)
  • Rate is auto populated based on order 
  • Notice the 1 is greyed out and cannot be signed
  • Click   a then enter the witness password (train)

  • Notice the bag has started

  • Sign. Refresh
  • Review the MAR for this administration

  • To commence the next bag, click the administration tile and repeat

Complex Infusions - PN

  • The prescription for this PN order is on paper
  • The volume of the PN is prescribed on the MAR to remind staff the patient is on PN and to allow transfer of the volume to the Fluid Balance Chart

  • Commence the PN administration. Click on the administration tile.
    • Witnessed by: Witness, Nurse
    • Site: CVC Grey Lumen (notice the tick to sign is not green yet)
    • Click Apply

  • Enter Witness password (train)
  • Notice the first bag has commenced in the Charting window

  • Sign (train)
  • Review the MAR

 

PN Order with Parenteral Nutrition PowerForm

  • There is another PN order available that accompanies the Paediatric Inpatient Parenteral Nutrition Powerform instead of the paper prescription.

  • The completed form would be viewed in Form Browser. (This patient does not have one). 
  • Select Form Browser in the menu

  • RIght click on the PowerForm and select View

  • Blood products are on paper
  • The volume is recorded in iView
