- Some infusions often require prescribers to authorise rate changes on the prescription, which requires modification to an existing order.

Review the order on the MAR or MAR Summary to check the rate change history

Go to the Orders page and search for the infusion to be modified

Right click on the order and select Modify

You may see this alert appear
This alert appears if:-
The dosing weight has expired

No dosing weight was officially recorded

The weight was manually reduced to cap the rate
NOTE: If you remove or change the weight, there is a risk that the rate will re-calculate, which you do not need to do for medications already titrated to clinical effect

Update the Normalised Rate details (weight-based rate)
The Rate will automatically re-calculate

Click Orders for Signature. Then click Sign and enter your password

Click Refresh. The order details update with the new rate in the Order list and on the MAR page

Inform nurses about the rate change. This is necessary because the rate change is not automatically updated in the MAR task. Nurses will need to manually update the task with the rate change
